BTC can be easily sold for cash so, indirectly, mining ETH can be a good way to fill up your bank account or earn cash. ETH can also be sold directly on several major exchanges, such as Bitfinex, BTC-e, Kraken, Gemini and Coinbase.
I reckon just try running Claymore and see what it says. I’m not up to date on Ethereum mining but I heard that the ETH blockchain has gotten too big to sync normally. I don’t know how miners are handling that but presumably some kind of pruning or other solution is used.
Ethereum is primarily mined with normal computer graphic card GPUs. That’s right, all you have to do is strap a bunch of NVIDIA or AMD  graphics cards together and make some money (assuming you have cheap electricity).
But this is where the money hits the wallet and while the 1080+1070+1060 was 42.5% more profitable in terms of hashing to power draw the initial cost makes payback insanely high as it cost 3x as much as the 470+570 configuration. Something very important in the long game.

Note that it seems AMD is currently faster mining Ethereum as compared to Nvidia GPUs and CPU mining is not much worth other than for testing purposes anyway.

Memory: Depending on what motherboard you got you’ll need DDR3 or DDR4 memory. Chances are you’ll need DDR4 memory and we suggest using an 8GB of memory. Some people say you can get away with single channel memory, but we’ve always run dual-channel in our mining rigs. A typical DDR4 2133 MHz 8GB (2x4GB) memory kit will run you about $59.99 from a big name brand.
   Specify negative value to enable monitoring (get statistics) but disable management (restart, uploading files), for example, “-mport -3333” enables port 3333 for remote monitoring, but remote management will be blocked.
As we are assembling 6 GPU ETH mining rig you will need 6 of them. If you are low on budget you can always start with 4 of them and periodically increase them. GTX 1070 uses 150W of power which is also great.
The hardware that will be doing the hashing is graphics cards. The AMD 470,480,570, and 580 are the currently most popular at the time I’m writing this. As AMD prepares to launch Vega GPUs the price of 470s and 480s dropped dramatically just as Ethereum is gaining major traction, creating a perfect opportunity to mine with these cards. These cards mine at about 22-30Mh/s depending on your degree of overclocking and configuration. Another popular option is the GTX 1060 6GB (Pay attention to the 6GB NOT 3GB). They hash around 18-28Mh/s. To determine profitability use an online calculator like the one offered by Cryptocompare.
The ratio you want to keep low is your USD/Mh/s since this directly reflects how long it will take to pay back your initial investment. I try to stay well below $10/Mh/s but if you don’t mind the risk you can go for it even if you are above this. Most stores are price gouging like crazy at the moment, charging $300+ for rx570s and similar mining cards that were $200 a few weeks ago, so if you choose to buy a card at these inflated prices first congratulate yourself on finding one that is in stock since they’re sold out everywhere, then accept that it may not generate much profit before it is obsolete for mining and carry on with that knowledge.
For powering 6 GPUs it’s important to buy a 1200W power supply with Platinum connectors. Using anything lower than a Platinum connector will cause a loss of energy during use; which will ultimately factor into your bottom line. If you’re planning on using less than 6 GPUs you can go with a less powerful power supply.

Recently there is a good source for the NoFee version that is constantly uploaded to the newest version, and from my testing I get exact 1.1% higher hashrate compared to the official Claymore release (calculated by 24hour comparison of found shares on the mining pool I’m using – nanopool)
