Miners use their computers to run programs which attempt to solve very compicated math problems which are used to validate, and embed blocks. Mining uses a very large amount of computing power and in turn it also uses a lot of electricty, neither of which come free. So as an incentive, the network rewards those who mine.
Storage Drive: Small and inexpensive is again the name of the game here. You likely don’t want to use a M.2 PCIe graphics card as some boards will disable PCIe slots when a M.2 PCIe SSD is inserted into the board. For that reason we suggest going with something like a low-cost SATA III SSD. The Kingston A400 120GB SATA III SSD at $47.99  or PNY CS1311 120GB SSD at $52.99 are hard to beat. If you don’t care about brand names or how easy it is to RMA if it breaks the DREVO Pro Series 64GB SSD at $39.99 shipped is cheap and will hold an OS.
As the S9 requires 1275 watts of power depending on your power type available you can either use two 110v PSUs such as a Gold rated 1000 watt PSU and a 650 watt PSU to power the miner. If you are able to use 220v power and have the correct outlets or PDU (Power Distribution Unit) you can use special PSUs that are either made specifically for Bitcoin Core mining or even those made for servers.
The Mist package contains the Ethereum wallet which you’ll need to receive any mining profits. Mist also includes an Ethereum browser with various functions, such as messaging and a social network and tutorials. As a tip, these tutorials and the social network are helpful learning resources. Don’t be scared to ask the Ethereals if you’re experience difficulty with any part of this process.
If you are mining on the Bitcoin.com mining pool and have questions on getting started, fees, or payouts, simply login and head over to the Getting Started page to read some common question and answers. There is also a community forum where users can engage with other miners.
There are rumors on the internet that Bitmain is working on yet another cryptocurrency mining hardware unit. While that in itself is not spectacular by any means – especially because it is the company’s business model – this latest venture would focus on Ethereum ASIC mining. Although it remains to be seen if there is any truth to these rumors, the prospect of an Ethereum ASIC mining is quite interesting, for obvious reasons.
Zcash seems to have been designed by a highly skilled team made of various profiles with much experience…and they did well. Zcash has been introduced with care : announcements were made, a public betatest phase was launched, and the biggest exchanges like Poloniex and Kraken supported the “ZEC” as soon as the first coins were emited.
Hey I have a question. Does Ethereum wallet ever gets fully synced? I’m running it for more that 3 days and now I got to the end and it wont sync at 100% cloud is at 69% and still some blocks left (currently 111) and it’s going up and down. I set up mining process successfully and got it to work (after solving antivirus problems that 5 times removed ethereum.exe…) I’m just curious about this wallet sync. Thanks
Important: The combination of the password you just used to create this address *and* the associated encrypted key file is what gives you control over your new wallet address. If you lose either of these, you’ve also lost control of your wallet and all of the coins associated with it—and there is literally nothing that anyone will be able to do to help you. Remember your password, and keep multiple backups of your key file(s)!
Hi, great artical. I’m currently learning all about this and am about to build my rig. I’m planning on using Ethos and have 2 x RX 580 8G and 4 x Nvidia 1070 8G (I’m planning to add more cards over time on my Asrock h110 pro BTC Mobo). My question is this: Can I run this mixture of cards altogether on the current version of Ethos? And will Claymore handle this mixture of cards too?
The bad news is that if you want maximum performance out of your rig, you’ll probably eventually want to flash your GPU BIOS under either operating system, but we’ll get into that in part 4 of this guide. But if you already know that overwriting your GPU BIOS with a custom replacement is outside of your comfort zone, then sticking with Windows will at least allow you to undervolt.
