By far the most powerful Ethereum miner, the Radeon R9 295X2 has a hash rate of 46 MH/s, drawing 500 W from the wall. This means you’ll see a yearly return of $1,454.18 USD annually per card. That’s right, over $1,400 per card. Some might think the GTX 1080 is a more powerful alternative, but they’d be wrong. If you want to generate serious revenue by mining Ethereum, the R9 295 X2 is your card of choice.
I’m FPGA design engineer, and I’m thinking in learning more about Ethereum to make a FPGA implementation, but I’ve read in many sites that Ethereum is ASIC resistant but I couldn’t find any technical explanation.
It would mean that I would have to personally persuade each person to send me a little donation and thats simply not worth those 5-10 dollars I initally wanted. Not at all. So I would take some of these developer fees which you wouldn’t get anyway.
On the whole, your hardware, excluding GPUs, shouldn’t cost you more than $500, and the large part of this will be your PSU. Below is a recommended purchase list from Amazon. The total without the GPUs comes to $472.21. While with 6 RX480s your total cost would be $1702.15 sans shipping costs.
NEW: added alternative assembler kernels for Tahiti, Tonga, Ellesmere, Baffin cards for ETH-only mode. Use them if you get best speed at “-dcri 1” (i.e. you cannot find speed peak), use “-asm 2” option to enable this mode.
When you dive into the world of GPU mining you’ll quickly find that to make any serious money that you’ll need to invest in a fair bit of hardware. Let’s go trough the hardware that one would likely need if they wanted to build a 6  or 7 GPU ethereum mining machine. Over at the Ethereum Community Forums you’ll find hundreds of threads about building a 6-7 GPU mining machine and you can make some pretty good money off a system like that. With 7 AMD Radeon RX 480 video cards that have been optimized for mining you should be able to get around 200 MH/s when mining ethereum, so if you plug that into a profit calculator you are looking at making a profit of $12,870 per year at the current difficulty and ETH price of $245. That’s guessing the rig uses around 1,000 Watts 24/7 and electric costs $0.1265 KW/h. (Please keep in mind the price of ethereum could always drop to zero or skyrocket, so think long and hard before you buy hardware to do this.)
Claymore software has a fixed fee of 1% when you are mining ethereum or 2% fee when you are mining decred. There are various problems that can happen due to the way the Fee is working. The fee works in a way that each hour you will be disconnected from your mining process and for about 1-2 minutes, you will mine for the Claymore developers. After that it will connect you again to your pool and start the mining again. By constant disconnecting and reconnecting each hour your GPU cools down and then heats up again, and by doing that you are risking the life of your I heard from many people that after some time one of the GPU’s would reset to the default clock settings because of the constant disconnecting/reconnecting or it would “hang” and crash the miner or cause it to recreate the DAG file, and you end up losing valuable time with that. Claymore is a really cool software and I think there could be a better way to support the developers, rather than risking our own miner stability. By using the official Claymore I lost about 3% of my shares compared to using the Claymore without the Developer Fee, everyone can try it for themselves and see the difference.
Step 4: Click “Start Mining” and choose the number of cores you want to use. If you choose to use fewer cores you use on your GPU/CPU, you’ll have a slower hashrate, but your hardware will be under less stress. MinerGate will now create a DAG file before it can start mining, wait for it to complete this process, once the DAG file is created, you will automatically start mining!
@adaseb Yep, they COUNT on folks like you! Disregard all technical feasibility and solid evidence on the ‘net that it’s bogus, but sooo wanting it to be true that you swallow it hook, line, and sinker. Go for it! Buy the limit! We’d all like to hear about your experience with it, really.
it’s hard to tell if one GPU produces memory errors or if it’s something bad with the GPU, that would cause it to break in the longer run (Windows has strong tools like HWinfo64 that can tell you precise if your GPU is working properly or if it’s unstable)
STEP – After you found the limit of your Memory clock rate, reduce your overclock setting by 100mhz and that’s your optimal GPU Memory clock rate. For example if you got a crash at 800mhz memory speed or saw that error, reduce the memory to 700mhz and that’s your optimum.
For the hard drive, using an SSD is essential. While SSDs are more expensive, you will only need a 16GB one, which will set you back less than $30. If you’re planning to solo mine, it’s recommended that you buy a 32 or 64GB one, but again this will only be a few dollars more.
Before you begin, remember that the actual amount of hard cash you’ll make from doing this will vary depending on the mining difficulty, the fluctuating price of Ether and how powerful your hardware is. MinerGate has a built-in benchmarking tool to give you a rough idea how much you stand to make per year, although this doesn’t take into account the electricity used by your machine.
get 80+gold or 80+platinum certified PSU’s ONLY. From my own experiences, I have heard many times that the cheap PSU’s caught on fire or even have melted, thus making serious damage to the motherboard.
Setup will now launch. Close down any other open apps and agree to the license agreement. On the next screen (Install Options), select ‘Add MinerGate to the system PATH for current user’ as well as ‘Create MinerGate Desktop Icon’. Click ‘Next’, then ‘Install’.
GPUs were the next available option for miners after noticing that the CPUs were becoming slower with each given day. They realized that the energy consumption of graphics cards was quite high, and so they could be used to mine Bitcoins. AMD GPUs are actually the best in this regard.
2. What PSU valtage do you recoment since both the logic that you used with the 20% rule and this calculator by OuterVision (https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator) (the same as the CoolerMaster one) is suggesting that you buy “bigger” PSU? (GPUs use a variable of 150, meaning around 1000 and then adding the processor and the 20% rule getting us at 1600W PSU or 2x650W PSUs) And since we are the the PSU topic – what brands do you recommend and do you recommend getting 2 PSU in the first place?
Video Cards: AMD Radeon RX 470/480 and Radeon RX 570/580 video cards are all the rage right now when it comes to ethereum mining, but they are extremely tough to find since they are all being bought to mine ether.

  1. Never underestimate the power of the Radeon RX 400 series. The Radeon RX 480 is not only the cheapest GPU in this list, it is also easily the most economic GPU. This card has a hash rate of 25 MH/s while only drawing 150 W at max load. You’ll make over $700 USD annually per card! Comparitively to the RX 580, this card is an awesome Ethereum miner!
    (4) Choose a Mining Pool to join: Claymore Ethereum Miner’s default is Nanopool which has a great API and Web UI. Miner doesn’t need to register with Nanapool. As soon as a Ethereum’s public address using Nanapool to receive some reward, the account will be automatically setup with that public address.
