A: As long as your system meets the general requirements and has at least one GPU with at least 3GB of RAM, you can mine Ethereum.  Some Gaming laptops do have high end cards, but with the considerable heat generated from mining there could be other impacts to your laptop so it’s best to go with a desktop build.  Virtualized environments that you can rent usually do not have enough powerful dedicated GPU in them, or are simply not profitable if they do.  There are currently no ASICs for Ethereum (as it is designed to be an “ASIC Resistant” Proof Of Work hashing algorithim, so if you see ads for one – RUN.  ASIC’s are still profitable for mining some coins (Bitcoin, Dash and Litecoin), but for home built Mining Rigs, Ethereum and other altcoins are still profitable to mine (whereas Bitcoin is not profitable on a home pc – even with many powerful GPU’s do the Bitcoin ASIC technology available).

ETH mining seems to be still buggy and not optimized, a lot of people still seem to have problems, hopefully this will be resolved with updates of the miner software. So try both versions of the ethminer, the CUDA one also supports OpenCL and CPU mining.

Only after Geth downloaded the entire Ethereum blockchain and it is fully synced then you start with Ethereum mining.   You know it is done when the command prompt reads …imported 0/1 blocks (0 queued 0 ignored)…
The way mining works is you contribute mining ‘work’ to a mining pool of workers and get shares of Ethereum for your work contributed.This guide will use nanopool.org though there are other options like ethermine.org. The mining pool uses your wallet address to keep track of your balance and pays out when you reach a certain balance that the pool specifies.
   Using values higher than 2 allows you also to set custom delay between DAG generation on GPUs, for example, “-gser 5” means same as “-gser 2” and also adds 3sec delay between DAG generation (can be useful for buggy drivers and/or weak PSU).
This will take you to the first screen to login to the miner. In the case of the S9 the login box that comes up the username is root and the password is root.  Once you have logged in you will see the system overview. We suggest you go to the Admin tab first and change the password to one of your own choosing. Your next step is to go to the Miner Configuration tab. I tried swapping the risers, the issue persist even switching the entire GPU with GPU’s/risers that are know to work. Are you on reddit? I have a thread going with much more details if you want to check it out. Don’t want to draw visitors from this site but it’s not the best for ongoing discussion.
Dear JR, I’m experiencing a problem that showed up today, after an unwanted windows update (that I was stopping for about 3 weeks), my mining rig slowed down a 35% in hash rate. I have windows 10. Are you or anyone else you know having the same problem ?

Pretty much any desktop PC running Windows can be relatively easily converted into a mining rig, provided it includes a GPU that supports OpenCL and has at least 3 GB of video memory. The CPU isn’t a factor, as isn’t the PCIe speed. However, 8 GB of RAM and 50 GB of disk space should be available for crunching Ethereum blocks.
Our comparison includes graphics cards armed with modern GPUs: AMD is represented by Ellesmere, Baffin, Lexa, and Hawaii (that’s the Radeon R9 390, Radeon RX 470/480, and Radeon RX 550/560/570/580), while Nvidia-based GP106/GP107 cards include the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060 3GB, and GTX 1060 6GB.

Each block must have the proof of work of the given difficulty if it is to validated in consensus. The algorithm for validation is called Esthash. It has to do with identifying the nonce input to the result in such a way that it will be below a threshold that is determined by the difficulty. If the outputs are uniform in distribution, then the fact that the time required to find a nonce depends on the difficulty is guaranteed. In this case, simply manipulating the difficulty will allow a miner control how much time is required to find a new block.
But I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be profitable? I understand that the Ethash algorithm needs lots of memory and that’S not cheap. But why hasn’t a company just produced them in bulk for a lower price and made it profitable ?!
Der PoS von BlackCoin gefällt mir hierbei am besten. Der PoS ist mit 1% relativ niedrig gewählt, jedoch werden Jene Nodes belohnt, die häufig online sind. So dass der PoS höher als 3% liegen kann. Dies schafft Anreiz eine Node laufen zu lassen.
Since we are not CPU-mining, performance isn’t determined by the CPU, the RAM or the hard drive : it just has to be working well together, with an internet connexion and reasonable performances. Low-end products will be fine. However, we should pay attention to the TDP of these components, CPU first, because additional heat / electric consumption could decrease profitability. It’s a question of average consumption. Personal tip : I’ve figured out that a 2.5′ HDD – 5400rpm – from an old netbook could draw less power than a low-end SSD !

Um jede Grafikkarte mit einem PCIe-x1-Slot des Mainboards zu verbinden, gibt es spezielle Adapterkarten, die wiederum billige USB-3.0-Kabel zum Transport des PCIe-Signals verwenden. Man kann solche “powererd Riser Cards” gleich im Zehnerpacks bei Aliexpress, Amazon oder eBay bestellen, aber auch einzeln bei Versandhändlern wie Caseking.

80 PLUS certificate tells you how much extra power the PSU will draw to power your components. Let’s say you have 8 GPU’s and they use with your motherboard and other parts exact 1000W (let’s say it’s 50% PSU load).  80+ Platinum will use 1060W total (it will lose 60W extra), 80+ Gold will use 1080W, 80+ Silver will use  1100W, 80+ Bronze will use 1120W and a PSU without certificate will use 1150W or more. The power draw of each PC part is the same, the only thing that changes is the extra power the PSU needs to power your rig (in our example our PC will always use 1000W but the PSU needs extra to generate that flow). PSU maximum efficiency is stated in it’s manula, mostly it’s 50-80% of it’s load, the ones I used in this example. At higher PSU loads the efficiency drops by addiitonal 2-4%. Higher grade certificate is expensive and most of them have 5-10 years warranty. It’s very important to get top grade and high quality PSU with long warranty because that reduces the RISK (PSU went trough a lot of testings, that’s why they are expensive), and if you already spend so much on your Mining Rig, there is no point to save some small $ on a very important component, and you will save power in a longer run that will increase your ROI.
Could someone help me out here. I’ve got a R280X that should run around 290 h/s on equihash. I runs great guns on Cryptonite 485 h/s but when I start Claymore Zen64 miner it starts out at 275 h/s and then starts to throttle back to 150 h/s. It drops my clock speed in half and I have no control over setting thru MSI afterburner. It mines along but at half the speed 500mhz.

get 80+gold or 80+platinum certified PSU’s ONLY. From my own experiences, I have heard many times that the cheap PSU’s caught on fire or even have melted, thus making serious damage to the motherboard.
It has become the new standard in Ethereum mining and with the huge price explosion the demand for these cards have far outpaced supply and created an extreme GPU shortage, resulting in much higher GPU prices.  That said, if you shop carefully, set up auto-notifications/alerts and have a little luck you can get some of the AMD RX series cards.
Wieso sollte PoS ein Perpetuum Mobile sein? Irgendwann werden angehäufte Coins verkonsumiert. Dann haben wieder Andere die Möglichkeit diese zu erwerben, Stake-Rewards zu generieren und es findet eine nötige Umverteilung (im positiven Sinn, nicht im sozialistischen) statt.
You can determine the rating for efficiency by dividing the hashrate by the power consumption. Newer cards are usually more efficient. This rating is of prime importance—given that electricity is a fixed, ongoing cost. In other words, the more efficient your card, the more profitable it will be once you’ve received the ROI.
Since Ethash (Ethereum Hash function) is essentially GPU memory bounded, overclock the GPU memory is sufficient without increasing the GPU core clock. This should reduce the power draw and the temperature of the GPU, while maintaining a great hashrate!

As for those obsessed with how the GPU miners just go where the profit is, coins be damned etc. please don’t forget that the reason we have bitcoin, litecoin and all the others is because it is profitable to mine them. I am just as much a crypto zealot as the next guy but day to day I check on my rigs and make sure they are running 100% because if they are not it hurts my bottom line. I’ll leave my house to fix a problem at midnight because, especially the way things are now, I don’t want to lose a whole nights worth of productivity. If I was just doing it to be nice, because I believe in the cause, to be frank a down rig would wait til morning.
    So basically, an ASIC should not have any benefit at all because it’s just general computation. And to top it off, contracts can be released that are specifically ASIC-hard so there would be an active disincentive to using ASICs. Though I’m not sure if that has ever been done or not in the wild.
    Coming from the Scrypt/GPU arena… What type of array do you estimate a contending miner would need in order to stay competitive (CPU type & number, Memory, additional hardware)? # Rack Units if applicaple? I realize this is complex, but on a rough order of magnitude?
    Next, you’ll want to switch to the “develop branch” of cpp-ethereum. To do this, in that same terminal, ‘cd’ into the /cpp-ethereum directory (the one created by the previous git command), and then type:
    it’s hard to tell if one GPU produces memory errors or if it’s something bad with the GPU, that would cause it to break in the longer run (Windows has strong tools like HWinfo64 that can tell you precise if your GPU is working properly or if it’s unstable)
