I though that developing Ethereum ASIC would be unprofitable because of their plans to switch to PoS, but it seems like Bitmain has calculated otherwise. One can say many things about ASIC miners and GPU miners but if you look at what the bitcoin network has grown into it quite impressive. It is the most powerful computational network on the planet. This adds a lot of value to bitcoin. More so, probably, than having a more federal mining population. From a miner’s perspective (a GPU miner like myself) ASICs are terrible. Every time I think about investing in some ASIC hardware I find myself mathematically concluding it is a bad investment. Especially compared with GPUs, which at least have some market value past their useful lives as miners. The exponential growth in difficulty on the bitcoin networks makes investment into mining hardware extremely tricky. Combine that with erratic bitcoin prices and you’ve got a real crap shoot.
In some cases, your motherboard BIOS might not be set-up correctly straight away. If you’re adding your GPUs one by one, and at one point your rig crashes, and you’ve eliminated GPU related issues, then it’s likely that your motherboard is the issue. Have a look around the forums for help, but often you will need a few settings changing. Personally, I’ve had experience with having to disable switch off some BIOS features and altering allocations, but system setups vary largely so I would say Google is your best friend.

While the GTX 1070 sits atop our list of the best mining GPUs, its follow up, the GTX 1070 Ti, is another fantastic mining graphics card, and with a number of power upgrades, such as a higher base clock, the 1070 Ti does a very good job. However, there are a few reasons why it’s listed lower than its older sibling. For a start, as it’s newer it costs more than the 1070, which will dent your profits from mining. It also has a higher power consumption, which makes it more costly to run. Finally, there have been incidents of a bug in the driver software which makes this GPU hash lower than expected, but an upcoming fix should sort that. If you’re prepared to tweak a few settings, however, this is an excellent mining GPU.

We’re going to basically do the reverse with the memory clock speed, but there are some important things to know. If you have a GPU that is factory-clocked at 1750 mhz or less (virtually every 4GB RX 470/480 GPU, and most RX 470 8GB GPUs as well—the Sapphire Nitro being the notable exception—then 1750 mhz is going to probably be your limit via this method. Increasing the memory clock beyond 1750 mhz will likely result in a change to less-aggressive memory timings that will result in a loss of performance, and there is no way to prevent this outside of BIOS modifications. So if you have a card clocked at under 1750 mhz, bump it up to exactly 1750 mhz, which will give you a decent performance boost. If you have a 2000 mhz card, you can increase it incrementally, like the reverse of what we did with the core clock. Eventually you’ll experience system instability: artifacts on the screen, a GPU crash, bluescreen, etc. When that happens, back down a bit until things are stable.
In NO scenario that a miner should modify the transactional content, in order to manipulate the hash result, miner can only modify the “nonce” section to generate a hash result and check if the hash result meets the target requirements. For each “nonce” change, recompute the hash result and compare against the target requirements, is exactly ONE hash. The speed of Ethereum hash is currently measured by MH/s (1,000,000 hashes per second) by using a GPU. For instance, Nvidia GTX 1070 can compute 25 MH/s without overclock (after overclock, it gains 20% speed and reaches 30 MH/s).

Third, select the Graphics card you intend to use for mining. The calculator automatically enters the correct hashrate and power consumption. If your card isn’t listed or you’ve modified its performance, select the Custom option and enter the relevant figures manually. Note that GPU hashrates are entered in (Megahash per second aka MH/s; denoting millions of calculations per second).
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 232,030 GH/s and using a ETH – USD exchange rate of 1 ETH = $ 723.40. These figures vary based on the total network hash rate and on the ETH to USD conversion rate. Block reward is fixed at 3 ETH and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.12 per kWh. Network hash rate varies over time, this is just an estimation based on current values.
The program that we will be using to mine is Claymore’s Dual Miner. The main feature of this miner is that it can mine two cryptocurrencies at the same time on each card, though we will only be doing Ethereum in this guide I recommend siacoin as a currency to dual mine with ETH, especially if you have AMD rx cards.
80 PLUS certificate tells you how much extra power the PSU will draw to power your components. Let’s say you have 8 GPU’s and they use with your motherboard and other parts exact 1000W (let’s say it’s 50% PSU load).  80+ Platinum will use 1060W total (it will lose 60W extra), 80+ Gold will use 1080W, 80+ Silver will use  1100W, 80+ Bronze will use 1120W and a PSU without certificate will use 1150W or more. The power draw of each PC part is the same, the only thing that changes is the extra power the PSU needs to power your rig (in our example our PC will always use 1000W but the PSU needs extra to generate that flow). PSU maximum efficiency is stated in it’s manula, mostly it’s 50-80% of it’s load, the ones I used in this example. At higher PSU loads the efficiency drops by addiitonal 2-4%. Higher grade certificate is expensive and most of them have 5-10 years warranty. It’s very important to get top grade and high quality PSU with long warranty because that reduces the RISK (PSU went trough a lot of testings, that’s why they are expensive), and if you already spend so much on your Mining Rig, there is no point to save some small $ on a very important component, and you will save power in a longer run that will increase your ROI.
There is some delay so don’t worry if you don’t see anything after you just start mining. Wait at least 20min before trying to check your account since it doesn’t create a webpage for you until you get a share.

You may have to ensure you have the correct virtual memory enabled (minimum 16GB). To do this, search for system in the start menu. Open system and on the left hand side click ‘Advanced System Settings.’ Go under the advanced tab, under performance settings, and advanced again. Then click ‘Change’ under virtual memory. Uncheck the box that states to ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’ and then input a custom size of 16384 (or whatever is the maximum allowable value) into the Initial and Maximum size fields. This will prevent you from having any errors with virtual memory.

Let’s assume for a moment this is a valid product and you are willing toss a chunk of money to get some of the usb’s or one of the boxes. What are you going to mine when ethereum goes pos? There are not many options. Has anyone found 5 or 6 other mineable coins for this specific product (2 or 3 might not be enough for me) with some kind of a business plan that would create value for their coin and draw the mining community?

  1. New to mining. I currently have 6 msi RX580’s stable at 29.6 MH/s on claymore. In the pool I was in I don’t think I’d ever get paid dponing 177 MH/s. On nicehash i can’t figure out how to set it up so I’m only mining ETH and my MH/s is only 22.3. Any help would be appreciated.
