We have prepared a short guide that should get you started with Ethereum mining using the Frontier release on Windows and we have prepared the required software to create your own address as well as how you can mine solo or in a mining pool using either your CPU or GPU (OpenCL or CUDA). We want to warn you that although getting started with the basic usage and mining may not be that hard, to be able to take advantage of all of Ethereum’s features you’d need to spend some more time getting to know it as it things are not like with your average Bitcoin clone. We are going to be using geth (source), ethminer (source) and ethminer-cuda (source), you can download the package containing the Windows binaries for both from the link below then you need to follow the following instructions:
Right out of the gate, it’s important for you to understand that mining for Ethereum is going to take up a tremendous amount of electricity and it’s also going to use up almost all of your computer resources while you are actively mining.

Tons of programs exist for you to mine in a pool or solo one of the most popular programs is Claymore’s GPU Miner. We found Claymore’s to be the easiest to use with a mining pool plus great performance results as well.
Claymore 11.2 is currently the best miner for Ethereum, and it comes with a nice option of dual mining  with some other altcoins (Decred, Sia… ) that can boost your profit by around 20-30% for 20% more power draw. Even if you have expensive electricity the bonus profit is probably worth it.

As with any cryptocurrency, Ethereum mining profitability depends on many factors. The hash rate of your miners in relation to the total network hash rate will determine your share of earnings. Your earnings can also vary depending on Ether’s price relative to fiat currencies like the US dollar.
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 9,654 GH/s and using a ETC – USD exchange rate of 1 ETC = $ 21.49. These figures vary based on the total network hash rate and on the ETC to USD conversion rate. Block reward is fixed at 4 ETC and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 15 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.12 per kWh. Network hash rate varies over time, this is just an estimation based on current values.
   If you mine ETC on some pool that does not accept wallet address but Username.Worker instead, the best way is to specify “-allcoins etc”, in this mode devfee mining will be on ETC pools and DAG won’t be recreated at all.
Disable all components that you don’t plan to use. This might save a little bit of power, and since your miner will likely be running 24/7, it’ll add up. For me, that meant disabling onboard audio, the USB 3.0 ports, one of the SATA controllers, the Firewire port, and the serial port.
Before you begin, remember that the actual amount of hard cash you’ll make from doing this will vary depending on the mining difficulty, the fluctuating price of Ether and how powerful your hardware is. MinerGate has a built-in benchmarking tool to give you a rough idea how much you stand to make per year, although this doesn’t take into account the electricity used by your machine.
The Ethereum Platform rests on open-source software, and there is a risk that the Ethereum Stiftung or the Ethereum Team, or other third parties not directly affiliated with the Stiftung Ethereum, may introduce weaknesses or bugs into the core infrastructural elements of the Ethereum Platform causing the system to lose ETH stored in one or more User accounts or other accounts or lose sums of other valued tokens issued on the Ethereum Platform.
Now after Windows is setup properly, download a tool called DDU,   That tool will uninstall your current driver and block Windows from automatically installing GPU drivers. That’s important so that Windows does not install an outdated driver! It will ask you to run in “safe mode” but that is not necessary. When you run the program just click on “Clean and restart”.
Graphic cards are particularly adapted for these simple, repeated and parallel operations : they have many ALUs (Arithmetic Logic Unit) or shaders for video processing. Whereas your CPU is a very good executive, a GPU is an unmatched laborer ! For the same cost, you’ll end up with a far better mining rate with a GPU. And should you prefer CPU-mining, you’ll need a high-end CPU, meaning usually high-end mobo plus RAM. Moreover, having several CPUs is expensive and quite unusual for desktop computers, while multi-GPU doesn’t scare anyone.

Setup was simple enough, we simply found a pool to join and what miner we would be using.  We decided to go with the Ethermine pool but finding a miner was a bit trickier.  We first tried Genoils Miner but never was able to get the stratum server connected so we moved on to Claymores Miner and that one took off like a demon, so we stayed there.  Claymores Miner allowed us to use Radeon cards as well as Pascal based GeForce cards without spending hours in configurations.
Alternative #2: Awesome Miner can connect to any computer running Claymore’s Dual Ethereum+Decred Miner if the API is enabled. It can be any computer, Windows or Linux, as long as the mining is running already.
On the Green selection you can see the “Memory Type”. In this example it’s Elpida. If you bought your GPU’s all at once, and they are the same card type and if you see  that they all have the same Memory Type, that means that they all CAN USE THE SAME BIOS. Exporting GPU BIOS can be done with clicking on the Red circle as displayed in the picture above, under the “BIOS Version”. Now you have your original bios exported, make a backup before going to the next step.
Sollte PoS kommen dann werden sich die Miner von ETH verabschieden. Niemand wird seine teure Hardware für ein obskures Experiment einfach liegen lassen. Dann wird eben was anderes gemined und ETH versinkt in der Bedeutungslosigkeit. Ohne die Miner ist ETH Nichts!

In order to mine correctly, we’re going to need to run two programs. The first is ethminer, which talks to your GPUs and does all the hashing work. The second is geth, which talks to the network and keeps up-to-date with the blockchain. Ethminer is written in C++ and comes from the project cpp-ethereum, whereas geth is written in Go and comes from the project go-ethereum. We’ll talk about installing both, and then follow up with how you’ll run each together.
Developers plan to ditch proof-of-work, the algorithm that the network currently uses to determine which transactions are valid and protect it from tampering, in favor of proof of stake, where the network is secured by the owners of tokens.
Step 2: You need to unzip the GETH file and move it to a location on your hard drive. In this case we’ll move it to the hard drive, usually (C:) – which will make the next step easier. All you need to do is copy the file you have downloaded and unzipped and move it to the hard drive folder.
Step 11: Type “cd /” into the newly opened command prompt which should look like this “C:\users\username>cd /” and then press enter. You should now see “C:\>”, You have just used the “cd” command or “change directory” command to make command prompt look at the C:/ drive – not your user file.
I think the problem is by the time we get ASICs the miner in China have been mining with them for at least 6 months and are ready to move on to the next generation. It is therefore just not worth the cost.
Sicherlich nicht der kleine Bitcoiner, sondern letztendlich auch wieder zur die großen Bitcoiner die entsprechend großes Gewicht im Pool ausmachen und ebenfalls den großen Teil des Rewards abkassieren. Dies meinte ich u.a. damit, dass jeder Algorithmus, der auf Vermehrung ausgelegt ist, keine umfassende Dezentralität bieten kann und sich IMMER Kapital anhäufen wird.
