So, with our eyes on Ethereum in particular, being the new rising star, that’s exactly what we did here at HotHardware (1 ETH = ~ as of this publication). We also learned some handy tips for tweaking your mining rig for maximum hash rate throughput, while keeping your heat and energy consumption at a minimum. We will be sharing these as well has some key hardware benchmark metrics and suggestions to help boost your personal mining potential.
The name of the chipset produced by Nvidia or AMD for each card remains the same (such as RX 480). You’ll notice that various models are available from different Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). For example, you might encounter the MSI Gaming Radeon RX 480.
Power Supply: Your system is going to be running 24/7 and using close to 1000 Watts of power non-stop,  so you’ll want to drop some coin on a good model. We highly suggest an 80 PLUS Platinum rated power supply that is 1200W or greater. We’ve used the Enermax Platimax 1350W ($239.99 shipped) with good success. If you plan on undervolting the GPU and reducing the power consumption you should be able to get away with a 1,000 Watt power supply. The EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 is solid 80 PLUS platinum model for $213.72 shipped or you can go with a lower cost Corsair RM1000x that is 80 PLUS gold certified for $159.99 shipped. Depending on the model you get and the model of video card that you are running you might need to get some SATA to 8-pin PCIe power adapters to connect all the video cards. If you plan on running two power supplies on one system you might want to pick up a dual power supply connector to power up and shut down both power supplies like normal.
Personally, I’ve found Claymore to be the strongest and best all round miner. It’s easy to set up, I’ve never had any issues with it, and it has a ton of added functionality (e.g. fan management), that I haven’t seen with other miners. It also has the bonus that it can mine two coins at once, which some people have found very useful to optimize their income. There have been reports of anywhere between 3 and 10 percent extra income.
Replace “eu” for your mining pool address found on the pool “Get Started” page, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address) and lastly replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use. (If you’re using the Nicehash pool, you can use -l to specify your location like “eu” for Europe)
You can skip this section if you already have an Ethereum wallet address. Otherwise, you’ll need to create one to mine with. There are many ways to generate your own wallet address, but I’ll show you how to do it using the official open-source Ethereum software. Be wary about trusting other methods, as some online creation tools are potentially scams designed to later steal your coins.
GPU’s get random hashrate drops, for example it shows 29.5MH/s, but sometimes it will randomly drop to 20 MH/s for no reason in the logs, and that happens very often. The way Claymore software tries to force your GPU’s to stay at those clock rates is terrible, and it will not work properly if a new Driver from AMD comes out.
yes you can change the nanopool to another one. You can use Teamview on Windows but there are some dedicated apps out there, I will look into them in the future. And yep Firewall shouldn’t cause issues.
Bitcoin.com is your premier source for everything Bitcoin related. We can help you buy bitcoins, choose a bitcoin wallet. You can also read the latest news, or engage with the community on our Bitcoin Forum. Please keep in mind that this is a commercial website that lists wallets, exchanges and other bitcoin related companies.
Step 4: Click “Start Mining” and choose the number of cores you want to use. If you choose to use fewer cores you use on your GPU/CPU, you’ll have a slower hashrate, but your hardware will be under less stress. MinerGate will now create a DAG file before it can start mining, wait for it to complete this process, once the DAG file is created, you will automatically start mining!
With Ethereum, the door is opened wider as only GPUs can be used to mine. In order to have any hash rate that is comparable to an ASIC miner, you’d have to string together dozens of GPUs. This creates an ecosystem that is more balanced and prevents consolidation of power. To be more technical, Ethereum mining requires more RAM than an ASIC miner can provide since ASIC mining is actually CPU mining, not GPU mining.
I have a 1080ti and would like to pick up some extra cash by mining, but I don’t want to degrade it’s life. I just got it a month ago and it is supposed to last me several years. How can I pick up some extra cash without it costing me another gpu?
Because of this smart contract capability, Ethereum has getting interest from enterprises and some of the world’s largest financial institution. And that in turn has some observers speculating that Ethereum could eventually eclipse Bitcoin as the most popular — and most valuable — cryptocurrency.
Furthermore, since ethereum aims to transition from proof-of-work mining to ‘proof of stake’ – which we discuss below – buying an ASIC might not be a smart option since it likely won’t prove useful for long.
DON’T overload your PSU! For example, an 1000W gold PSU should NEVER be forced over the 800W power draw for max efficiency, you might end up destroying it. please don’t buy cheap PSU’s for running your mining rig 24/7! If you run PSU at 100% a lot of bad things can happen, I have confirmed from a lot of sources that. If you already have so expensive components, the worst thing would be to save money on your PSU.

I am particularly drawn to participating in Ethereum and would love to set my computers to be involved. I’m not smart enough to be a programmer, but I love the project because it’s more than just mining for fabricated wealth.

  1. Ethereum is quite difficult to get mining on windows – although with a bit of help and following the tutorial below you can get it up and running and start your own ethereum mining project in 15 mins. We’re going to show you how to start mining Ethereum on your GPU and CPU with Windows 64 bit in this guide. You will need to download two programs and need to have a decent GPU with more than 1GB of memory to get the most bang for your buck in terms of mining as Ethereum works on a memory hard hashing technique which GPU’s are best at.
One can say many things about ASIC miners and GPU miners but if you look at what the bitcoin network has grown into it quite impressive. It is the most powerful computational network on the planet. This adds a lot of value to bitcoin. More so, probably, than having a more federal mining population. From a miner’s perspective (a GPU miner like myself) ASICs are terrible. Every time I think about investing in some ASIC hardware I find myself mathematically concluding it is a bad investment. Especially compared with GPUs, which at least have some market value past their useful lives as miners. The exponential growth in difficulty on the bitcoin networks makes investment into mining hardware extremely tricky. Combine that with erratic bitcoin prices and you’ve got a real crap shoot.
After installing this new application, you’ll need to create an account for yourself. You’ll want to make sure that you create as secure a password as you can, but you’re also going to want to make sure that you physically record that password somewhere (writing it down somewhere secure) as you won’t be able to retrieve that password after it has been created.
We’ve seen many services that offer cloud mining which look great on paper but we believe the true profitability is from owning a rig. In addition to being fully in control of it you can also sell the parts afterward.
Could someone help me out here. I’ve got a R280X that should run around 290 h/s on equihash. I runs great guns on Cryptonite 485 h/s but when I start Claymore Zen64 miner it starts out at 275 h/s and then starts to throttle back to 150 h/s. It drops my clock speed in half and I have no control over setting thru MSI afterburner. It mines along but at half the speed 500mhz.
