The rest of this guide focuses on the hardware side. For further help setting up an Ethereum wallet, join a pool, and use your miner. These steps are detailed in our beginner’s guide to mining Ethereum.
The prerequisite to mining is having a machine installed with a modern GPU. For a typical gamer or a Deep Learning researcher, you would probably have a Windows 10 machine ready to be deployed for Ethereum mining.
While some people have speculated that Bitmain is working on a new ASIC mining device for Ethereum, there’s no real evidence to back up these claims. Supposedly, this project is code-named Antminer F3 and will consist of three mainboards. With 6 ASIC processors per board, the rumored unit has 72 GB of DRAM memory and is capable of achieving speeds of up to 220 MH/s. It sounds like a dream come true for a lot of Ethereum miners, even though it’s highly unlikely such a system will ever be created.
Keep in mind, though, the mining world is a whirlwind of change. The tools that you pick up today might be obsolete next year, and some mining pools might fall away while others emerge, so it’s worth keeping aware of industry shifts.
Therefore Ethereum mining is a good investment for people to get involved in as it reduces the risks from trading in a volatile market, and is a great way of generating passive income every month. In future articles we will also address the need for overclocking and undervolting your cards to increase efficiency.
How far will the cryptocurrency madness go? While the number of different coin varieties is always increasing, only a handful have attained enough market capitalization to be truly viable. Ethereum, a blockchain-based distributed computing platform, and its associated token, ether, is one of the most popular.
The Vega represents the latest in AMD GPU architecture. While the standard air-cooled Vega series runs a little too hot for serious overclocking, this special edition stays cool enough to reach 42 MH/s, while drawing just under 300 Watts! This feature represents an amazing value: It can match the overclocked performance of Nvidia’s Titan Xp, but only costs half the price.
But Hashing performance isn’t everything in the world of mining, efficiency is king and lead to the next chart, profitability.  There is a steady climb in the Radeon lineup but looking at the RX 470 power draw vs hashing rate it is no wonder people are jumping all over that card!  The GTX 1070 is showing some promise here again with lower than RX 570 power draw but matching it on hashing. These numbers were taken from the wall after 1 hour of hashing.
There is some delay so don’t worry if you don’t see anything after you just start mining. Wait at least 20min before trying to check your account since it doesn’t create a webpage for you until you get a share.
Geth is the program that communicates with the Ethereum Network and acts as the a relay between your computer, its hardware and the rest of the ethereum network computers so if a block is mined by another computer your Geth program will pick it up and then pass on the new information onto your GPU or CPU for mining.
Goodnight everyone, I’m trying to mine with my Zogis video card Gforce 6500 1gb ddr2. however appears a driver mensangem cuda wrong version. already installed the nvidea driver straight from the site, both in windows 7 as the 10 in opcl also does not work in certain mining CPU. I’m just not getting the video card. Anyone know why?
RED – this part shows you the real GPU’s core clock rates and its voltages. In other            overclocking tools you will only see the last one, in this case 1340 Mhz. As you noticed there are 8 of them (P0,P1….P7) and that are the GPU’s core states. This means the GPU switches automatically to default between those states, depending on how much you use the GPU. From all those 8 states, we don’t want the GPU to switch between them, we want it to run stable at the fixed clock rates we put it on. To do that we will need to DISABLE all  the GPU’s states except the last one (P7). You can disable every state from P0 till P7 simply by double clicking on its name (just go with  the mouse over “P0” and doubleclick), you will know if you are successful if that state changes colour.
Now that you’ve downloaded a client and your node is a part of the network, you can download Ethminer. Find the download for your appropriate version of Windows here, or GPU mining instructions for other operation systems here.
Well, firstly one you’ve encountered several times in forums and articles. Make sure it’s not a scam. Are there active miners ? Is this a beta service ? Pools are usually dedicated to a cryptocurrency, but they tend to create series of pools with the same brand, one for each currency. There are also “multipools” (auto-switching cryptopools), see section VI. Moreover, most pools are not free. They include a fee, usually 1 to 3 %. Go and read their Terms of Service to find it. Then, look at the specs. Does it support : stratum protocol, statistics (with hashrate reporting), a clear payout scheme ? The following services are appreciated : SSL connexion, alerts, payment threshold, no registering (“anonymous”).
As reported earlier this week in Korean news outlet The Bell, the South Korean conglomerate will produce Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) processing chips in its own foundry in a deal with Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC. Ironically, TSMC provides the ASIC chips used in Bitmain’s Antminers, but it’s new partnership with Samsung could well provide the first real competitor to Bitmain’s chip manufacturing ventures.

Keep in mind the context… From Bitcoin has emerged a great community of tech-savvy do-it-yourselfers and a new caste of digital speculators, then ASICS and super mining farms came, endangering the idea of wholly decentralized and reliable network : the Proof-of-Work algorithms had to become “harder” for ASICs to mine, ie ASIC-resistant, and this was one of the numerous reasons why Ethereum had been praised. Now, difficulty is approaching limit for mining rentability, raising concerns for the mining community. As if we needed a new eldorado, easy to mine for, that would be capable of embodying a new crypto-era, with a fairly certain future… mmh, ‘ looks familiar. Yet, be quick… because there are always some ASICs coming (remember Dash), and ZEC’s price has already fallen so that ETH is still worth mining.
At the time of this writing, Ethereum (ETH) ranks second only to Bitcoin (BTC) in terms of market capitalization, with a total cap of almost $83 billion. In comparison, Bitcoin’s market cap exceeds $140 billion (after hitting a peak of more than $325 billion several weeks ago), and Litecoin (LTC), silver to Bitcoin’s gold, crests at only $6.8 billion.
Decide on which service you will like to use for your wallet, and sign up to it. I’ve created a Poloniex account, as I plan on doing some trading with the Ether I mine to try and further increase my profits. Make a note of your address. It should look something like this: 0x7b5eff562ee17b9e27a7af6afc26944266c8b025.
AsicMiner Market team has been building and selling mining rigs, creating custom firmware for ASIC miners (padrino Jupiter firmware, padrino Titan firmware), and consulting on large GPU and ASIC deployments since 2011, when Bitcoin was just starting to gain popularity. We will be around for the future and are happy to help with projects of any size.
MinerGate’s Variable Difficulty algorithm, allows small portions of the Ethereum Blocks to be sent to miners according to their equipment and effective hashrate, making Ethereum mining possible in any computer with a simple click of a mouse!
Hello Peter, I was wondering if you know ethOS well enough to possibly help me getting my Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 480 4G to get higher in hash rate? I am stuck at 24mh/s and I can’t seem to get it higher but everyone keeps telling me most people are reaching 28+. If you want just email me please! I would appreciate all the help!
When we saw the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 getting 27.4 MH/s in stock form we were impressed, but then the faster clocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with more CUDA cores only got 20 MH/s. We talked to NVIDIA about this and they said it’s because the Ethereum base code fits the GDDR5 latency characteristics better than GDDR5X. So, when it comes to Ethereum mining a GeForce GTX 1070 is better to have than the GeForce GTX 1080. That said the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti uses GDDR5X memory and is getting 32 MH/s.
Our comparison includes graphics cards armed with modern GPUs: AMD is represented by Ellesmere, Baffin, Lexa, and Hawaii (that’s the Radeon R9 390, Radeon RX 470/480, and Radeon RX 550/560/570/580), while Nvidia-based GP106/GP107 cards include the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060 3GB, and GTX 1060 6GB.
While the ROI – Return on Investment can go past a year for the Ethereum mining GPUs that have been mentioned above, it can be reduced if you opt to use more than one GPU. You will not get much by using just one video card to mine, and so deciding to purchase more than one GPU will be the best thing to do. But before you fully venture into that, you should also make yourself aware of the profit your mining rig will bring as well as the amount of money that you will spend on the energy.
The bad news is that if you want maximum performance out of your rig, you’ll probably eventually want to flash your GPU BIOS under either operating system, but we’ll get into that in part 4 of this guide. But if you already know that overwriting your GPU BIOS with a custom replacement is outside of your comfort zone, then sticking with Windows will at least allow you to undervolt.
Hopefully at this step everything is great. In the command prompt or PowerShell you used above, cd into /cpp-ethereum/ethminer/Debug. You’re going to see a file called `libcurld.dll`. Make a copy of that file and place it in the same directory, removing the ‘d’ in the name to make it `libcurl.dll`. I’m not sure why, but there’s some build error which causes that name to be incorrect, which causes ethminer to fail at runtime.
(8) Keep Cool and Pay Electricity Bill: We need to understand how to keep our mining profitable by using a Ethereum calculator to estimate earnings. Here is one calculator by inputing the hashrate, power consumption and power cost per kiloWatt to estimate the profit https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/eth
MinerGate is your gateway to mining CryptoCurrencies easily, quickly and with no hassle – you don’t need to be an expert programmer – MinerGate will guide you through the process. Mining is an important part of any cryptocurrency’s ecosystem, it allows the maintenance of the network and it’s also a good way to use your computer to make money, but not everyone gets along with a command line terminal and not everyone can afford a powerful graphics card, so today we’re going to show you how to mine Ethereum and other Cryptocurrencies – the easy way!
